Huawei needed three generations to turn its fullest health-monitoring wearable from a thick, awkward block with a wide, sweaty strap into something meant for everyday wear. In a TVNET review published on 19 October 2026, technology journalist Jānis Vēvers describes the new Watch D3 as a modern watch with a wide, bright square AMOLED screen. The piece was produced in cooperation with Huawei Latvija.
The strap is 7.5 grams lighter than on the second-generation device and hides an inflatable cuff. The cuff briefly compresses the blood vessels to measure blood pressure, in the same way as a monitor in a family doctor's office. The metal case is 11.3 millimetres thick, in line with slimmer watches from Huawei and its rivals. The shape recalls the lightweight Watch Fit 5, though Vēvers treats the D3 as a higher-level device.
Earlier inflatable straps were bulky, dense and made the skin sweat in warm weather. On the D3 the cuff is narrower and more compact, and it uses materials that let more air through and feel kinder on the skin. Vēvers writes that it no longer interferes with daily movement or rubs, which matters if someone wants to keep it on around the clock.
The 1.92-inch AMOLED display is large and sharp enough for health figures, graphs and notifications, including in bright sun or on a brisk walk. Peak brightness is 3,000 nits.
Blood pressure remains the watch's main feature. The user sits in a chair, raises the arm to heart height and stays still for a few seconds. The cuff inflates, then releases air, and the watch records systolic and diastolic pressure. A round-the-clock mode takes readings automatically through the day and night. By day a gentle vibration prompts the correct posture. At night measurements can run in the background without disturbing sleep. Readings can also be compared immediately before and after exercise, including running, strength training or a hard walk.
Vēvers notes that doctors are likely to warn against relying on such devices, because a reading can miss if the wearer moves too much or the strap is not tight enough. The watch rejects many of those attempts, tells the wearer the measurement failed, and leaves it out of the statistics. On test days he regularly compared the watch with a certified upper-arm medical tonometer. The gap stayed within about 3 to 5 units, which he calls a strong result for a wrist device of this size. The Watch D3 is certified in the European Union as a medical device.
Beyond blood pressure, the watch can record an electrocardiogram and, within a few seconds, flag a heart-rhythm disturbance or arrhythmia. A one-touch health check, completed in under a minute, measures pulse, blood oxygen saturation (SpO2), stress, skin temperature and vascular elasticity, then gathers them into one report. Sleep tracking records sleep stages and overnight breathing stability and offers advice on rest. Through the day the watch follows emotional wellbeing and stress, and if stress is high it offers guided breathing exercises.
A built-in microphone and speaker support voice calls over Bluetooth with a phone. Notifications, messages and mail can be read on the screen, with replies from preset short phrases. The watch tracks load in more than one hundred sports, draws a workout route on a map, and works with Android and iOS phones. Curve Pay lets the wearer pay by holding the watch near a contactless terminal.
With health tracking in active use, including regular blood-pressure checks, sleep analysis and calls, a full charge lasts about five to six days. If blood pressure is measured less often, battery life can stretch to about a week. A full charge takes 75 minutes.
Vēvers recalls that Huawei's first European watch with a real inflatable blood-pressure cuff, shown four years ago, was a technical step but bulky, heavy and closer to a medical instrument than a daily watch. After a couple of weeks with the D3, he concludes it can serve as an everyday watch for activity, health, incoming messages and phone calls. It comes in white, black or mocha gold. At 449 euros he presents it as a purchase for anyone who wants or needs to follow blood pressure and heart health. During an introductory offer, the package also includes the Huawei Scale 3 smart scale.
