Gal Ben Moshe, a Tel Aviv-born chef described as the holder of seven Michelin stars, has been in Riga for two masterclasses aimed at aspiring cooks. Jauns.lv visited him during the sessions at the Riga Tourism and Creative Industry Technical School and at the Hotel Business College.
He is known for an innovative reading of contemporary Levantine cooking. His interest in the kitchen began at 15, after his parents divorced, when the need to prepare meals gradually became a vocation. He later trained in several famous restaurants, including London’s Maze under Jason Atherton, Marcus Wareing at The Berkeley, Hibiscus, and Chicago’s Alinea, where he worked with Grant Achatz. That path sharpened his precision and creativity and his ability to join techniques from different cuisines with vivid Middle Eastern flavours.
In 2012 he moved to Berlin, drawn by the city’s lively dining scene. There he opened GLASS, noted for a modern take on Levantine haute cuisine. He later launched Prism in Berlin’s Charlottenburg district. Prism received a Michelin star in 2020 and kept it for five years in a row.
