Ieva Ozola of Bauska is the creator of Sviesta karameles. When she bought sweets for her children, she read everything on the packs, including the small print. She did not like what she found, so she started experimenting in the kitchen. The snack she wanted needed only sugar and butter, and that is how Sviesta karamele came about.
The 18 October 2026 piece by TVNET+ journalist Kristīne Vilīte treats caramel as something that has to be handled with care. Hot caramel can burn badly. Cooled caramel can jab you when it is broken.
Ozola says the years have taught her that caramel must be tended and stirred the whole time it is cooking. There is no series on in the background and no dash into the next room. Leave it without full attention, she says, and the fussy mixture will get its own back.
